Position Overview

As the Senior Financial Accountant, you will play a key role in the financial management and reporting functions of Penten. Reporting directly to the Group Financial Controller (GFC), you will be responsible for overseeing various financial and audit activities, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and providing valuable insights to support strategic decision making.

You will be a detail orientated professional with strong analytic skills. Additionally, you will hold leadership responsibility and oversee a small team of finance professionals, providing support, guidance and advice.

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Lead the team in preparation of the statutory annual financial statements including the parent entity consolidation and the supporting work papers for consolidated and individual entities in the Penten Group.
  • Lead in the annual audit process, including timely preparation of workpapers and regular engagement with the audit team to manage the process through to sign off.
  • Coordinate annual compliance activities, including working with external tax specialists for submission of R&D tax incentive, income tax returns, ASIC submissions and other compliance activities.
  • Facilitate the monthly and annual financial close, ensuring all period-end processes and journals have been completed correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Review General Ledger Balance Sheet reconciliations and manage the Intangible and Fixed asset registers, including capitalization, write offs and impairment assessments. including the Bank Reconciliation.
  • Prepare complex accounting treatment assessments, policies and procedures, and other material as required.
  • Monthly analysis of financial results, including identifying and facilitating improvements to financial reporting and processes.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements in compliance with Australian Accounting Standards.
  • Facility the annual external audit process, liaising with auditors and addressing audit queries.
  • Implement recommendations from audit reports to strengthen internal controls.
  • Continuously assess and enhance financial processes and systems for efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Provide supervision and mentoring junior finance members of the team.
  • Contribute to a collaborative and results driven culture within the team.
  • Other tasks or projects as directed within the skillset of the role, competency, experience, and capabilities.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; with CA or CPA qualifications.
  • Proven experience as a Financial Accountant, with demonstrated record of increasing responsibilities.
  • Proficient in financial reporting software and ERP systems.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian accounting standards and taxation laws.
  • Experience managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including auditors.
